Beginners Guide to Changing License Plates in Forza Horizon 6

#1
Forza Horizon 6 lets you personalize your cars in many ways, and changing the license plate is one of the simplest ways to leave your mark on every vehicle in your garage. Whether you want to add a fun nickname, a personal joke, or a realistic regional plate, it’s easy to do once you know where to look.

How to Change Your License Plate Text

Customizing your plate is straightforward and applies to all cars in your garage. Here’s the step-by-step process:

Travel to a Hub

Start by driving to any Horizon Festival Site or visit one of your unlocked Player Houses.

Open the Customization Menu

In the main garage menu, look for the License Plates tile, usually in the bottom-right corner.

Edit the Text

Select the text bar and type your custom alphanumeric characters. You can use a name, a joke, or any combination you like (up to 8 characters typically).

Save Your Changes

Confirm your entry, and your new plate will update on your current car and all other vehicles in your collection.

How to Completely Remove the License Plate

If you prefer a cleaner look, Forza Horizon 6 allows you to hide the default plate:

Go back to the License Plates menu in your garage.

Highlight the plate option and press X (on Xbox controller) or the corresponding button for your platform.

The standard license plate will disappear from all cars, leaving a smooth rear bumper.

Adding Realistic Custom Vinyl Plates

For those who want an authentic look, like Japanese plates or region-specific designs, you can overlay community-created vinyls:

Remove the default plate first.

Open the Designs & Paints tab in the garage.

Go to Apply Decals and Shapes and focus on the rear bumper.

Use Search to find vinyls by typing keywords like “Japan Plate” or “Custom Plate.”

Download and position the vinyl to fit perfectly over the bumper. Keep in mind, some car models may have geometry that makes placement tricky.
